2.1 Speaker Virtual Surround Audio System

Home Theater Systems
Individual Components

2.1 speaker home theater systems are ideal for those who are renting an apartment or dormitory room and/or just plain don't want to mess around with fishing and hiding long speaker wires running from the front to the back of the room as you would need to for properly setting up the side / rear / back surround speakers for a "conventional" 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. Then, there is the additional space savings of having no separate center channel speaker to set up! Maybe you simply do a lot more music listening than TV watching. One possible drawback to this type of audio system is that most lack video switching capabilities, so you will have to perform all the audio/video input switching through the A/V inputs on the back of your high definition TV and run a digital audio cable from the TV to audio system.

2.1 speaker placement Because digital virtual surround sound processing technology does a decent job of simulating 5.1 or even 7.1 channels of surround sound audio effects using far fewer speakers, you'll only need to worry about setting up three speakers. The two stereo speakers should ideally be located to the left and right sides of your television screen, either sitting on top of your TV stand or wall-mounted next to your flat panel high definition television. The third speaker is the subwoofer which produces all the low frequency deep bass effects and typically sounds its best sitting on the floor, either somewhere between the 2 satellite speakers, behind the television, or near a corner. You may want to experiment a bit with speaker and subwoofer placement and settings to achieve the best possible sound.
