Basically, there are three types of home theater furniture that you may need to buy before you'll be able to properly set up your home theater room
- 1. furniture to hold your television and home theater components, 2. stands or wall mounting brackets for your
speakers, and 3. seating to relax on while enjoying your home theater system.
Entertainment centers and TV stands The central focus of any
home theater entertainment system is a big screen TV or video projector. An entertainment center or a TV stand is home furniture that is designed to support at least your television at the proper viewing height, and also most likely has additional room for
A/V components such as your home theater receiver, disc player, digital satellite or cable box tuner, and maybe the
center channel speaker.
While most TV stands don't have enough shelf space for
holding left and right speakers and aren't wide enough to get good stereo separation
anyway, an "open-front" home entertainment center or wall unit (i.e. no glass doors) with shelving to each side of the TV screen may be able to hold
or even hide smaller satellite or bookshelf size left and right main speakers. If your home theater features a front projector and screen or a flat panel TV instead of a
rear projection television, you may need to invest in a TV or projector mounting bracket if you want to permanently mount
a flat panel TV screen to the wall or a projector to the ceiling.
Speaker stands and wall mounts You've also got to get each of your
surround sound speakers and subwoofer in the right places in the
room for the best sound quality. If your home theater surround sound audio system does not include enough
speaker stands or wall brackets for your particular room setup, you may need to buy speaker stands or wall mounting brackets separately. |
Home theater seating furniture Unless you plan on trying to view your big
screen and home theater surround sound system while standing up or lying on the floor, you might want to invest in some comfortable home theater seating!
